India approves world’s first DNA COVID vaccine

The ZyCoV-D vaccine was made by Cadila Healthcare. It reported that the three-dose ZyCoV-D vaccine inhibited symptomatic infection in 66% of those vaccinated. However, the company plans to make around 120 million doses of India’s second home-grown vaccine each year. As of the reports, the previous DNA COVID vaccine has worked well in animals but not on humans.

As of the reports, around 570 million doses of vaccines given to its nation in India which are Covishield, Covaxin, and Sputnik V.

According to the health survey reports, around 47% of people have received their first shot since the beginning of the vaccine process in January. During the same time, 13% of adults received a full dose of vaccine.

The ZyCoV-D maker says it had directed the largest clinical trial for the vaccine in India. In this program, the firm has involved around 28,000 volunteers in more than 50 centres. The first time, it had been tested vaccine in young people around the 12 – 18 years age group in India.

Generally, DNA and RNA are molecules that pass genetic information to children from parents. Now, DNA vaccine also boosts the immune system and fights viruses. ZYCOV-D uses plasmids or small rings of DNA. This signifies the world’s first human DNA vaccine against COVID-19.
